13 Environmental Science
Course Description
13 Environmental Science
Mā te whakaaro nui e hanga te whare; mā te mātauranga e whakaū - Big Ideas create the house; knowledge maintains it
Students will develop their skills as kaitiaki (guardians), kaiwhakamarumaru (protectors) and experts of our precious New Zealand environments. This science course will focus on creating a more hands on, project based experience of science that connects students to our local environment. Coursework and assessments will focus on authentic contexts where students are required not just to learn ‘about’ stuff, but to actively contribute in building a sustainable future.
This course will have a particular focus on developing transferable skills such as group work, communication, statistical literacy and information literacy as well as reading, writing, problem solving and analytical thinking. Prior experience taking a science class at Year 12 is desired, but not required for this course.
